I think that post-season 2 I need to introduce the Good Omens fandom to the notion of FFXIV Sin Eaters.

The Sin Eaters are born of a world that has an... Artifical overabundance of Light. To put it very simply, in FFXIV, Light is the power of Stasis and Preservation, whereas Darkness is Life and Change. An overabundance of immortal, dog-eat-dog life is found in a world subsumed by Darkness. But in a world subsumed by Light, people and creatures who are affected too much by it become Sin Eaters.

Or, called another way: The Forgiven.

And, of course, the local... Archangels. Such as:

I am now turning over everyone from GO in my head with this stuff in mind.

Forgiven Curiosity-Crowley. Forgiven Naivety-Aziraphale.

the ffxiv/good omens brainrot won't let up but I've just lost a huge post about it and am now screaming internally.

so here's the non-spoiler version.

here's the first theme of FFXIV. literally the very first theme of the game, so it's not a spoiler. I am now pondering whether to do a Good Omens edit to it now or to wait for S3. Because it fits so well.

and it fits even better if you know the plotline up to Endwalker, because... of huge, humongous spoilers that need their own post.

ok, so. very long post of crossover brainrot incoming, you have been warned.

but first, if you only know Good Omens and play video games AT ALL, but haven't played FFXIV, - please do not go below the cut. It contains a retelling of the FFXIV plot in Good Omens terms, complete with videos. But if there's ever a chance you might play - go in blind.

The FFXIV storyline is an EXTREMELY well written slow burn, and is much better without spoilers - and I am a person who usually does not mind them. It's just so much fun watching their worldbuilding and putting the pieces together for the first time. The GO-relevant stuff is mostly in the last two expansions, Shadowbringers and Endwalker so I am basically going to spoil most of their bigger plot twists below, as they are relevant to these plotbunnies.

If you know both, though, or know that you will never play the game - enjoy the brainrot!

It was mentioned in Una McCormack's "The Crimson Shadow" that Cardassians grew fond of coffee and I think it is totally true. Also so-called ikri buns were mentioned.

But the catalyst for me to draw this picture, however, was a scene that my mom saw in the street: an ambulance stopped near ice-cream stand and two EMTs went there to buy ice cream. We agreed that this certainly had Bashir & Parmak vibes and I got so inspired that literally next day drew THIS. The Cardassian version of ice-cream stand, but with buns and coffee, ambulance skimmer and two very serious doctors while on duty.

And I wonder what else do they sell in such stands... Any ideas on Cardassian street-food? :)

UPD: Now with fragments under cut!

this feels like a good time to say that when I was a teenager I went to hear Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman talk about Good Omens the book (I know! I know!!!) and they said that one of their favourite things about writing it together is that it brought their two fandoms together and caused all the terry fans and the neil fans to hook up. So suddenly they started seeing all these couples where one was a skinny goth Gaiman nerd and one was jolly fat little Pratchett nerd. “And,” said Terry, “they looked like lots of number 10s walking down the street together!”

and now I realise that of course Az and Crowley are the ultimate number-10-in-human-form couple.

as a kid i had one of those “there’s a monster under my bed” moments except real.

every night i would cry about a ghost or something trying to scare me by knocking on my bedroom windows and walls. like, really loudly, every hour or so, every night. only at night. so my dad was like “heh okay kiddo let’s check it out :) ah see? there’s nothing here :)” and left.

until years later he admitted to me that he did in fact hear the unexplainable knocking when he slept in that room one night, and it kept him awake with fear. and suddenly felt awful for not believing little kid me.

imagine your kid being like “daddy there’s a demon in my closet” and you being like ok son lemme just check that for you :). and you open the door and there’s a demon in the closet
